Yet another spring theme

Postby Serafin » Thu May 03, 2012 6:26 pm

Hello hello!
I have seen many topics similar to thos one, getting ideas for spring theme colors. Sorry for that, but I think that´s just a question that will always come up again and again^^

I´m the proud owner of my first wood elves now, a glade guard regiment. But I´m kind of stumped with the color scheme.
As there are already many many autumn elves, I wanted to go for spring - but not like in the book! Too much green, the spring is much more colorful, everything begins to blossom and is fresh and beautiful.
Also, I imagine my army to be guards of honor for Ariel on her way to the spring ceremony, which is a huge festival for the wood elves I think.
So, I want to go for light yellowish green sprinkled with spring colors like yellow, pink, white and light blue.
I made some sketches for that (Got the idea from someone else from asrai, while searching for color schemes)

The left one was my first try, but I think it´s too summery... Though I really like the pattern on the cloak. The right one is more springish, but I´m not happy with the leather parts...

What do you think? any suggestions on the colors (especially on leather)?

I really like the theme on the right. With the red/pink color giving it some funky elements.

I agree that if you are going for a spring theme, the left one is a bit more "summery", and maybe you should try out the 2nd one.

As for the leather, if you are going for spring, you should go for light colours to go along with your light shades of green. Instead of going for Snakebite (talking with Citadel color names) or such, maybe try out with Graveyard Earth with lighter highlights. This will make the models stand out a bit more "earthy" in a way, and this way you can make the leather parts look more "nature-like" than the ready made, shiny leather paints one has in their paintbox :)

Hope this helps!

I would go for the right one, but leave out the pink...
It´s really cool to have something written here.

Thanks for the advice! I´ll have to look up the new name for graveyard earth, but I´ll try it out for sure!
About the pink, I´m actually thinking about alternating red and pink on the parts, because I came across the Idea of the rose...
See, the rose in mythology is used as a symbol for renewal, which is pretty fitting for the spring ceremony. Also, White Roses are a symbol of Secrets, and I imagine the Woodelves to be rather secluded and secretive, fitting too. Thorns can be seen as a symbol for the woodelves defensiveness.
I´m actually really excited about this symbolism stuff <3
So, I´ll try to make them red, white and pink with light green cloaks. And yellow as a contrast color maybe.
*goes to paint the test mini now*
