FF(Rats) vs Muckster (Wood Elves) 1000pts 8th

Postby FigureFour » July 16th, 2010, 14:0

My list is:
30 Clanrats w shields, banner, musician and warpfire thrower
30 Clanrats w shields, banner and musician
30 Clanrats w shields, banner and musician
20 Slaves w nothing
20 Slaves w nothing
5 Jezzail Teams
5 Poison Wind Globes w poisoned wind mortar
1 Warlord w shield, tail weapon and War Litter
1 Chieftain BSB
997 points

Pretty bare bones I guess. Lots of rats with a few Skyre goodies because I can't resist. If there happens to be an experienced Skaven player around, I'd love some comments.

Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and roll up a scenario + table. If I've got time, I'll even draw up a map today.
I'm using hamete for my rolls, so you should be able to check dice log 892 if you want to see my rolls. I'll post them all here though, for simplicity's sake.

Code: Select all
Roll for battle type:
1d6
6 = 6

That's "The Watchtower." Sounds cool.

Code: Select all
Number of terrain pieces:

1d6 +4
3 + 4 = 7

Code: Select all
Terrain:

2d6
1: 1 + 4 = Hill
2: 4 + 5 = Mysterious River
3: 2 + 4 = Building
4: 2 + 4 = Building
5: 4 + 4 = Obstacles
6: 5 + 4 = Mysterious River
7: 2 + 2 = Sinister Structure

Code: Select all
Types of Terrain

1d6
Hill: 6 = Anvil of Vaul
Obstacles: 3 = Blazing Barricades
Sinister Structure: 3 = Wizard's Tower

So I guess we need to take all that stuff, plus the objective Watchtower and make a map of it? That's a lot of terrain.

Image
It's busy as hell, but is everything clear?

Hmmm . . . I also tried to attach the PSD version of the map, since it would be easier to edit with layers intact, but apparently I'm not allowed to upload it. It's under a meg, want me to email it to you or something?

And here's a reference template for my units.

I'm going to need your email for that . . .
I'll see what I can do about the scenario. I've got a PDF copy of the book for using at work (where I am right now) which is also missing the Watchtower page . . . I'll try and remember to write it out when I'm at home or something.
Edit: Or we could just reroll the scenario and take the tower off the map . . . Is that easier?

OK! I'm back.
Let's just reroll the scenario. That's easiest.

Code: Select all
Reselect scenario

1d6
2 = Dawn Attack

Let's roll for first setup then.

Code: Select all
Deployment Roll Off

1d6
4 = 4

I'll take the top edge.

Rolling for deployment area in the same order that they are listed in my first post. Both characters are joining the first clanrat unit.

Code: Select all
Deployment

7d6
5 + 1 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 5 = 20

Which gives us:

30 Clanrats w shields, banner, musician and warpfire thrower - center
30 Clanrats w shields, banner and musician - left
30 Clanrats w shields, banner and musician - center
20 Slaves w nothing - left
20 Slaves w nothing - left
5 Jezzail Teams - right
5 Poison Wind Globes w poisoned wind mortar - center

I'll post the map later.

Edit: It's later now.

Result of the throw of dice "7d6" :

SO that puts us with
Spellweaver- Center
20 Glade Guard- RIght
8 Dryads-Center
Great Eagle-Center
Great Eagle-Center
3 Treekin-Left

That's almost straight down.
Code: Select all
Artillary

1d6
4 = 4

1 is missfire, so that's 6 inches. It's not going to be close to anything.
Guess it's your turn then.

You've still got 2 dice left, right? And it expires before your next combat phase? Assuming so, I'll let that one through and throw all my dice at dispelling whatever your last spell is.

Ok then i really didn't expect that to go through, shooting time
GG at the Poisened wind orbs, long range+ skirmisher, so that means 16 shots at 5+
Rolling "1d6 >= 5" 16 times

1: 3 = 3 ... failure
2: 6 = 6 ... success
3: 2 = 2 ... failure
4: 1 = 1 ... failure
5: 3 = 3 ... failure
6: 5 = 5 ... success
7: 6 = 6 ... success
8: 5 = 5 ... success
9: 6 = 6 ... success
10: 2 = 2 ... failure
11: 6 = 6 ... success
12: 2 = 2 ... failure
13: 6 = 6 ... success
14: 3 = 3 ... failure
15: 3 = 3 ... failure
16: 6 = 6 ... success

sum: 65, average: 4.06, success: 8/16 50%

Wow... crap... maybe we should open a dice log after that roll...
I actually just did, log 224
well 8 hits at a 4+
1d6 >= 4
1: 4 = 4 ... success
2: 5 = 5 ... success
3: 5 = 5 ... success
4: 2 = 2 ... failure
5: 4 = 4 ... success
6: 2 = 2 ... failure
7: 3 = 3 ... failure
8: 2 = 2 ... failure

sum: 27, average: 3.37, success: 4/8 50%

So thats 4 of them dead Spell singet will try to shoot at them hoping to finish him, Long range, Skirmish, Cover so 6+
1d6
2 = 2

Darn! That would have been awesome to finish it off

Well thats my turn after your panic

Do you think you can send me the PDF map with your moves?
Code: Select all
Panic

2d6
2 + 6 = 8

That's NOT a pass, so I'll reroll via the standard bearer. (You can do that now, right?)

Code: Select all
Panic (Reroll)

2d6
3 + 1 = 4

That's a pass.

Yeah, I realized right after I saw the map that I should have deployed those guys behind the rat blocks for protection, but hey, they kept the arrows of the plague mortar, and that's what's really important.

Sorry I've been taking so long. Work just got a little hectic, so I don't have a lot of free time right now.
Image
There's my movement, the mortar should be just out of archer range now, if I measured correctly.

For my magic phase I'm going to try and dispell the Throne of Vines.
Code: Select all
Winds of Magic

2d6
2 + 1 = 3

Code: Select all
Dispell

3d6
2 + 2 + 6 = 10

I forget what it was cast on, but I don't THINK that succeeds.
Edit: Looks like you got a 10, so it's gone.

For shooting, I'm going to drop the mortar in about the middle of the dryad unit.
Code: Select all
Scatter. 5-6 = Hit.

1d6
5 = 5

Code: Select all
Artillary. 1 = missfire.

1d6
3 = 3

That's a hit. I'm going to have to find that template now . . .

OK! I checked with the template. It's 4 hits, just like it looks.

Code: Select all
Roll to wound.

4d6
4 + 4 + 5 + 6 = 19

It always wounds on a 4+, so that's 4 wounds, and it's a warpstone weapon, so those are magical. Ouch.

Next up, I'm firing the warpfire thrower at the treekin. I'm positioning the template so it's JUST touching all three treekin, and I'm hoping to roll low.
Code: Select all
Artillary.

1d6
2 = 2

That's two inches foreward, which will solidly hit all 3. The dice love my weapon teams today it seems.
If I remember correctly, you're T5, so I wound on a 4+.

Code: Select all
Wounds.

3d6
4 + 2 + 6 = 12

And it's magical and flaming, so I think that's two dead treekin, unless you save at -2.

Then I'll fire the jezzails at the dryads.
Code: Select all
To hit.

5d6 >= 5
3 + 4 + 4 + 5 + 2 = 18

That's one hit. Wait, I forgot skirmishing . . . That's no hits. Should have shot at the archers . . .
Anyway.

1d6

sum: 4, average: 2.00

Crapppp 4 wounds... that hurts

Just to be clear, I'm pretty sure wounds are assigned then doubled, not the other way around.
That means one treekin takes a wound, it's doubled and reduced to 1 wound. Then he takes a second wound which is doubled, but irrelevant. Meaning it should be one dead treekin, not one dead treekin plus and extra wound.
