A ward save isntead of the Cold One (Heartstone or Black Amulet) might have done the trick.

Round 1 - 3rd turn: Asorial Dragonheart VS Halrich Von Carstein

When Halrich saw his opponent, he was sure he would win. The Elf looked as if he had trouble holding up his sword. "Are you the one that has slain his kin?", he asked with a deep, rumbling voice.

"Yes I am, although I did not wish to do so. The decision was not mine to take.", he replied. His voice was trembling, almost as if he had trouble talking because he was focussed on holding the sword up.

"What a wretch.", thought Halrich. "Looks like he won't be able to endure much torture. What a shame." Drawing his own blade, he started to run towards Asorial. Instead of defending himself, the Asrai ran from his opponent. "COME HERE YOU COWARD!!!!!", Halrich roared.

"With pleasure.", whispered the Elf, his voice no longer showing any sign of exhaustion. Jumping up, he put his feet vertically against the wall, bending his knees and jumping back towards the Vampire.

"What the...", cursed Halrich. But he was already to late to bring his sword up. The Elf's blade hit him, but the attack didn't have much strength behind it. It cut his arm, but the Vampire was merely enraged by this.

As Asorial hit the ground and got up in one fluid motion, all signs of a heavy blade had disappeared. He hadn't been holding the blade up, he had been focussing on hold it down. He saw his opponents blade coming towards his blade. Although he managed to block it just in time, the sheer force behind the blow sent him to his knees. "Who's laughing now, silly Elf?" Asorial didn't reply, he was pointing all his strength towards blocking the blade. "If I could just...." "Time to die, stupid Asrai."

"NOW!!!!!!" As Halrich put all his strength towards pushing his blade down, the Elf made use of the Vampire's own strength. Rolling sidewards, the sword got stuck in the ground. Halrich was astonished, "This can't be." Trying desperately to free his blade from the ground, he already knew it was to late. "Indeed, time to die.", said Asorial.

5 extra wounds on Asorial

Asorial dies

Could you change the names a bit? So no one is confused :)

To be honest I wasn't really that surprised by the result (for a LD9 character with a 5+ ward and no armour the spirit sword is kind of a nightmare item to face, especialy as it nullifies high toughness). Oh well, there's still more fights to come and who knows, my luck might start to pick up.

Round 1 - 3rd turn: Khai'Zan VS Imhoe'c the Insane

Khai'Zan had grown confident in his abillities. Instead of entering the arena by flying over the wall, he used the gates. "No need for surprise actions.", he thought, "They cannot defeat me anyway.". His confidence grew even larger, when he saw his opponent. The Elf stood there, talking to himself in a strange language. "What a pittyfull wretch. Who is he, to think he can defeat me, Khai'Zan, Chosen of Khorne." With an angry roar he charged Imhoe'c.

The Elf who still stood motionless, didn't move. "Fool, doesn't he know who he's up against?" Khai'Zan didn't care, just another skull for his master's throne. He hit the Asrai three times, sending him flying against the wall. Although three of the hits weren't strong enough to pierce the armour, one broke a few ribs, as the cuirras was smashed against Imhoe'c's chest. But it was exactly what the Elf needed to wake up.

"I see you're ready to fight now.", said the daemon, "Good, seems like I'm going to have a fight on my hands anyway." But Imhoe'c remained silent. Instead of making useless threats, he charged Khai'Zan. For a couple of minutes, the two combattants tested eachothers skills. Although the Elf broke through the daemon's defences several times, none of his blows had the strength to cause a wound with the daemon, except for some scratches, that merely enraged the already furious daemon even further.

Uttering a fierce battle-cry, the creature swung his axe beneath the Elf's defences, in what would have been a fatal blow. But the Elf managed to avoid the worst part of the blow by ducking to the side. But the axe still hit his leg, cutting into muscles and bone with ease.

Pushing aside the pain, Imhoe'c managed to stand on both legs. He knew this would be his last chance to kill the beast. But before he could decide what he would do, Khai'Zan was already upon him. Already weakened by the wounds caused by his opponent's axe, his hits weren't strong enough to wound the daemon.

Paying no heed to the pathetic defence of the Asrai, Khai'Zan threw himself on the Elf. Now that he was on top of him, the Elf would be defenceless. "I told you I was going to win.", he said with a big grin on his face. Grabbing his axe, he cut the Elf's throat, almost cutting the head from it's shoulders. "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!!!!!!!"

Khai'Zan wins

Khai'Zan charges (3)
3 hits
3 wounds
2 AS passed

Imhoe'c (2)
2 hits
reroll: 3 hits
0 wounds

Khai'Zan (3)

Imhoe'c was revived once more, cursing his misfurtune. As the demon walked away, Imhoe'c spat at its back, but the spit just sizzled into the air as it approached, due to the intense heat radiated from the cursed flesh.

bah! stoopid ward save... most useless item in the world... Im going to rethink my item choosing for Imhoec next AoD, maybe a Spirit sword and the armour of the fey... yes that sounds about right

Round 1 - 4th turn: Kai-Huan VS Hal Qualleth Moriquendi

As Kai-Huan entered the arena, he could see Hal Qualleth sitting on his Cold-One across the arena. At the first sign of his hated enemy, he started running towards his opponent. That miserable Dark Elf would pay for robbing the Temple Cities of his people. As he reached the middle of the arena, the Dark Elf finally noticed him, and turned his mount towards him.

But it was already to late. By the time the stupid mount had recognised the danger, Kai-Huan smashed into it, breaking severan of the monsters ribs. As it hit the floor, Hal Qualleth was thrown acroos the arena floor. But Kai-Huan wasn't so lucky. He got trapped beneath the massive belly of the Cold One, and couldn't move his legs.

Hal Qualleth slowly got onto his feet again, taking the time to taunt his opponent before he delivered the coup de grace. "So you thought you could defeat me, silly lizard. Haven't you learned anything of our raids?" With these last words, the Lizard spat at the Druchii's feet, enraging him even more. But as the Dark Elf moved in to have some fun while torturing his victim, he made one mistake. As he macked at the Saurus's legs, he severed the leg of the Cold-One, releasing Kai-Huan from underneath the beast.

It was all Kai-Huan needed. He sprang up, grabbing the Dark Elf by the throat. In shock, he let his sword fall to the ground. As he lifted the Dark Elf, he put his blade against his opponents throat, slowly pushing it trough, untill the blade protruded from the Druchii's neck.

Vengeance was his.

Hal Qualleth (2)

Hal Qualleth awoke in agony once more in his chambers. Roaring in pain he looked around and saw one of his slaves lying on the floor face down, bowing before his master.

"Well don't just lie there you idiot, get me something to ease this pain!"

Looking around, he could not remember the fight he had had, nor any fight. He put this down to his injuries. Noticing a small not by his bed, Hal Quallet picked it up and read it. Of all the ironies, his sister had sent him a letter telling of her victories in her recent raids against Lustria.

Round 1 - 4th turn: Halrich Von Carstein VS Fyrhaine

Halrich entered the arena very carefully. He knew who he was up against and knew even better that he should not underestimate her. He had underestimated his previous opponents with disastrous consequences. But this time he was prepared. Watching his opponent enter from the opposite side of the arena, he knew that he would have to use all his cunning to be able to defeat her.

Fyrhaine was in a great mood. She had fought vampires before and knew they were worthy opponents able to inflict delicate wounds. Smiling with the thought of the pain, she started running towards Halrich. But the Vampire stood still. As she brought her fist up, aiming for his throat, he sidestepped. But she was prepared, using her other blade, she punched him in the ribs. Although one of the hits was deflected by an invisible field surrounding the Count, one managed to pierce his flesh and break several ribs. But this was a vampire, and he knew no pain.

Even as the blade hadn't left his chest yet, Halrich spun round, dragging the daemon with him and smashing her into the wall. Hefting his blade high into the air, he prepared to cleave her in two. But the bladepassed right through her, embedding itself into the ground.

Watching her opponent trying to free his sword, Fyrhaine smiled. "I thought this was going to be a challenge, but instead I find a pathetic vampire who isn't even able to hold his own blade. What a pitty." Jumping onto Halrich, she pinned him on the ground with her daggers. She would enjoy herself with this one. There was still time, before the next match began

All the warriors were called to the arena. They were now halfway through the first round, and some of the champions clearly had the upper hand.

Khai'Zan, Chosen of Khorne stood in the middle of the arena. He had won every fight he had fought in, only suffering some minor wounds in the process. But these had been healed by his God. But one thing still bothered him. Looking towards the source of his frustration, he grew angry. The Elf had finished his fights without even the slightest sign of weariness. He still hadn't suffered wounds, and stood on the other side of the arena with a sick smile on his face.

Asorial Dragonheart stood in one of the big gates through which the combatants entered. Allthough he wished to speak to his kin, he did not trust himself to get near them. He knew the bloodthirsty nature of the blade all too well and did not wish to take any risks. At the thought of killing the winged daemon however, he felt a smile appear on his face. "What has become of me?", he thought. "I'm beginning to enjoy this to much to my liking."

Dihiran watched her kinsman carefully. Although he had grown stronger during the course of the arena, she could see his skin turn paler and paler with every victory. She herself didn't have to worry about that. She had lost every battle in the arena because of the wound she took in her first fight. Allthough she had been revived and healed by the tournament master, she had never recovered fully. When asorial stabbed her with his sword, it felt as if part of her immortal soul had been ripped from her body, and absorbed by the blade. Even now, she could still feel the connection between her and the blade.

Fyrhaine was late, as usual, allthough this time, no major announcements had been made yet. As she walked through the arena, she felt the eyes of her opponents follow her. She smiled. "Idiots.", she thought. "It would be suicide for them." But she couldn't help smiling at the thought of her beauty being admired. Maybe it was some remnant from when she was still a Druchii.

She didn't realise that some eyes weren't following her in admiration. Hal Qualleth watched her from atop his Cold-One with hate-filled eyes. I shall have to tell Lord Malekith about the reappearance of the Cult when I get back. "If I get back." The thought came suddenly, appearing out of nowhere. "Nonsense. Even if I lose the competition, I'll still be revived by the Tournament master. The only thing to worry about then, is how to explain my failure to Lord Malekith."

As always, Imhoe'c stood alone, in deep thought. Or so it appeared to the others. In reality, he was trying to ban the strange voices from his head. They had appeared ever since the tournament began, and hadn't disappeared since. Every time they promised the same thing: the power to destroy his opponents and to wield the winds of magic as if they were born to him. Considering his rate of succes in the tournament, he was subconciously paying attention to what the voice said.

Gar-Loq stood restless. Although he hadn't drawn his sword, he felt it's magic burn through him. It filled him with an unnatural desire to rip everything apart in his sight. Although he could control his natural instincts, this was something entirely different and he could only just restrain from charging the vampire next to him.

Halrich watched the Saurus intently. His thirst for it's blood had not been quenched by his defeat at the hands of the Oldblood. Instead, it had only served to awaken it even more. Fascinated by the power of the creature, he could almost taste it's blood on his lips.

All the campions were suddenly roused from their thoughts. The voice that had spoken to them at the beginning of the arena had reappeared. Although this time, some of the contenders heard only a single voice. Surprised by this change, all but the 2 daemons pondered over what this could mean. Although they already knew what it meant, they were still hesitant to accept it.

"Well done children. Some of you have been very succesfull so far, not losing once. Others have been less fortunate. But fear not, you still get a second chance. But grasp it with both hands, as this is the last one. For those who are thrown out of the arena, await a terrible fate. Such is the price of aspiring to glory and so has it been for countless thousands years. Yes, for thousands of years, because this tournament has been held before, producing a mighty champion every time. Go know and heed our words."

The participants stood in awe. So it was true, they had been subtly guided onto the path of bloodshed and deceit. But to the surprise of all of them except the daemons, they noticed that when previously they would have rejected such a fate, they now more or less accepted it.

I really enjoy your writing!

I never did write something fluffy about the last battle, but I guess Asorial just went to his tent to rest as usual :P

Looking forward for the rest of the tournament! And hey Daemon, beware :ph43r: B)

BTW, he isn't staying in his tent. Picture the arena as the colosseum in Rome. Every fighter has his own room and under the arena ther is a maze of tunnels, hiding all kinds of strange and powerfull things. Maybe try to explore them, and see what you find. There might be a reward. ;)

And thanks for the feedback. :)

Hal Qualleth swore in disbelief. He had been lured to the place where his soul would be devoured if his luck continued as it was. Turning a corner in the dark tunnels, Hal Qualleth did not reconise where he was. Swearing loudly, he looked around, only to see the candles slowly, one y one, extinguishing themselves untill there was blackness. Drawing his sword and illuminating the area with a dark crimson glow, Hal Qualleth set off in the only direction that didn't have a snarling noise.

Ok, this has stayed quiet for far to long.

Round 1 - 4th turn: Asorial Dragonheart VS Imhoe'c the Insane

Asorial was worried. The first time he had to fight a Wood Elf in this arena, he had felt as if he would burst into tears, rather than raise his sword and slay her. Now, he still felt a little unsure wether to figh Imhoe'c or not, but he already knew that the decision had been made for him. Without hesitation, he started to walk towards Imhoe'c.

Imhoe'c observed Asorial with care. he knew he had to avoid being hit by the blade at all costs. If Asorial would manage to wound him, he would almost certainly lose the battle. As he saw his opponent walk towards him, Imhoe'c's eyes never let the blade out of sight. It was almost as if he could see the spirits absorbed by the blade surround it.

Suddenly, Asorial sprinted towards Imhoe'c. Surprised by the speed of his opponent he only just managed to deflect the blade. But the Alter Highborn used his momentum to press Imhoe'c into the defence. It was only a matter of time before he would brake through his defence. But Imhoe'c was lucky, he was saved by his armour. Now he stepped back from Asorial. "I want to help you my friend. I can see the blade tearing at your sanity." "I don't want your help, nor the help of anyone else. There is only one way for me to be released of this curse."

Seeing that there was no more hope for his fellow Wood Elf, Imhoe'c resolved to give him what he most desperately wanted. To be released of the curse of the blade. Even if it should be through death. But as the thought appeared in his mind, Asorial had already gone back into the offensive. This time, the strike that broke through Imhoe'c's defences managed to penetrate his armour. Biting deep into the Wood Elfs chest.

Asorial watched the corpse of Imhoe'c as he pulled his blade from it. He could feel part of the soul of the champion running through the blade. "You have to understand, not even through killing me would you have helped me. The curse would have been passed onto you."

Asorial wins.

Asorial charges
3 hits
1 failed Armour save
Asorial rolls 6
Imhoe'c rolls 2
Imhoe'c loses an extra 4 wounds and dies

Asorial's been very lucky with his rolls for the Spirit Blade so far. That's the least I can say.

Seriously. I am VERY sorry for not writing any fluff about Asorial, but I dont know if im gonna do anything more for this AoD. Maybe in the following days if I find inspiration.

And again I like the way you write, and how you depict Asorial, I just hope he doesnt die. If you dont mind, make it "mortally wounded" in case I incorporate him in any story posted here :)

By the way, keep up the good rolling for Spirit Sword!

Round 1 - 4th turn: Khai'Zan VS Dihiran

Khai'Zan didn't even notice the elf as she walked into the arena. He thought she posed no threat and treated her accordingly. He even turned his back to her, humiliating her in front of the gods. But he was going to have a nasty surprise.

With inhuman speed, Dihiran charged the monstrous daemon. Holding her blade horizontally, she aimed to cut his head from his body. But as her blow hit, she could hear the sound of metal sliding over metal. Her blow hadn't been strong enough to cleave the metal collar around Khai'Zan's neck and had left the messenger of Khorne unharmed.

"Foolish Elf. Do you really think you can defeat me that easily?" But Dihiran ignored the daemon. It appeared as if she was praying. Confused by what this might mean, Khai'Zan decided he'd better not await what was going to happen. But before he could even move, he felt tiny fingers clawing at his legs. Looking down, he could see several winged creatures trying to hurt him. As he stooped to pick one up, his victim bit his finger, releasing his potent poison into the daemons veins.

But Khorne watched over his minion and helpt him recover from the poison. Enraged by this insult, the daemon charged Dihiran. Before the Elf could even react, he had severed an arm, leaving her incapable of holding a shield. But she hadn't finished yet. Standing up, she summoned her last strength and thrust the blade forward into Khai'Zan's back.

But the daemon only smiled. "To late." With a great swing of his axe, he cut her in half from top to bottom. "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Nice to see the battles underway! And as always a well written report. I dont think it needs to be much longer than it is, leave that for the RPG´s and such ;P

Round 2 reports will be longer, but I'm starting to get bored with round 1. I have added a new event/rule, that will see its first appearance when round 1 - turn 5 begins. And the second round of the tournament will see a lot of changes and will focus more on the narrative aspect of the tournament.

PS: I was sick today and didn't feel like writing, but for once I had time to write something, so decided to post a short battle report. :yabbo:

Round 1 - 5th turn: Khai'Zan VS Fyrhaine

Flying over the arena, Khai'Zan could see Fyrhaine standing in one of the powers. She had already seen him, so there would be no chance for a surprise attack. Instead, he landed just in front of her, his sword already unsheathed.

"So we finally face eachother." said Khai'Zan, "I'm looking forward to killing you." "I'm sorry to disappoint you then. But I won't punish you for your arrogance, instead I shall deliver to you the blessings of Slaanesh."

As she watched the khornate daemon become more furious with every word she said, she slowly readied the blades on her forearm. As Khai'Zan spread his wings, preparing to charge her, she sprinted forward. While he was hovering above the ground, he didn't have enough momentum yet to be able to avoid the attack. He would feel one of Fyrhaine's blades wound his wing.

As he came crashing to the ground, he managed to steer his fall into the direction of Fyrhaine. She reacted by continuing her attack. The two stood locked in combat for several minutes, neither one able to gain the upper hand in the fight.

When they finally parted, they were both bleeding from several wounds. Khai'Zan, enraged by the fact that he couldn't gain the upper hand in this fight threw himseld at Fyrhaine again, only to discover that she had somehow avoided the blade and had now stabbed him in the back.

Again, he charged her, although this time a bit more cautious. But every time he struck at her, he discovered that she had already stepped away. "STAND STILL AND FACE ME LIKE A MAN."

Even as he said it, he could already feel her touching his back. "You seem to forget that I'm not a man." Laughing maniacally, she stuck the blades in his back, immobilising him. When he hit the ground, she stooped beside him. "I told you I was going to win.", she wispered. Slowly she started to carve the sign of Slaanesh in his chest. Khai'Zan wasn't dead yet and she was just beginning to enjoy her. The other fights would have to wait.
