This style of writing is good and you describe the chaos powers well. It builds the supense well. You also failed to mention several of the contestants i.e. the saurus and the vampire.

Hooray, it´s a Tournament of the Ruinous Powers. :D

You describe the seducing Chaos aspects really well *), Wolf but yes, you did not mention some of the participants.

I wonder who the "nimble figure" is. :)

np: Xandria - She´s Nirvana

*) If the actual reports are written on the same level this is going to be a really entertaining read. I hope I can manage to write as well for the GoB.

Actually, its' not hard to guess who the nimble figure is. ;) Seeing that there are only 2 chaos characters in and the first one in the Khorne Daemon. So that only leaves Fyrhaine. (Not some secret special warrior I'm afraid. :D )

Sorry to those I forgot, but I typed this the day before at about 1 am and didn't feel like completing it that same night. :S I ended up posting it here, while I forgot it wasn't ready yet. So it's nothing personal. ;)

PS: Thanks for the replies on the chaos voices. Took me a long time to come up with a description of them which would make them instantly recognisable.

Edit: LoL, just read cenyu's post a bit better. The name of the AoD was kind of random and actually has nothing to do with the chaos gods. But as you pointed out, it might be used like that. Wasn't my intention though. :D

As Halrich strode into the arena, he could see his opponent had already arrived. For a cold-blooded creature he looked surprisingly vivid. It might have something to do with the warm weather. Although he couldn't feel it he had seen the sweat glistening on the other warriors brows. This didn't worry him that much though, as he was convinced he was still faster then the scaly creature.

Unsheathing his sword, he put up a sprint towards his foe. Bringing his sword up in an arc, the thought appeared that this was going to easy.
At the last moment the Lizard sidestepped, stabbing him twice, barely missing the Vampires throat. Furiously he swung his sword backwards.
The Lizard, surprised by this move tried to block the sword, but Halrich's strength, augmented by the enchanted blade, was to much for the shield. The blade split the shield in two, knocking him a couple of feet further on the ground. With his last strength he tried to get up, but as he got on his knees, the vampire cleanly cut his head of with one fell swipe.

Exhausted Halrich exited the arena quietly. As he looked back, he could see the foul magic of the Chaos gods reviving his opponent. Kai-Huan would get a chance to redeem himself.

Kai-Huan strikes first

2 Failed Wards
Halrich has one wound remaining

Halrich strikes
4 Hits

3 Failed AS
3 Failed Wards
Kai-Huan loses

2 points for Halrich, 1 for Kai-Huan. Results are in the first post of this topic.
The Vampire did get very lucky though. Kai-Huan only had to make 1 4+ ward and the battle would have looked very different.

I was gonna say that you could elaborate a bit more in the duel-description, but now that I think of it - dont ^^

Thats good in a knock-out, but it would simply be to much writing for ye with this kind of arena. Looking forward to the next battle myself :)

Halrich passed his slender, long-fingered hand over the injuries the saurus had inflicted, mutter a dark incantation under his breath. Instantly, magical energy sprang from his hand, flowing over the wounds which began to close, the pale flesh joining back together. Within a few seconds they had healed over completely.
Halrich smiled slightly to himself. True, he thought, the saurus had proved to be more of a challenge than he had first thought but that was all it had been; a challenge, but not an entirely unwelcome one however. Still, there were others at this arena and any one of them could prove to be a different matter entirely.
He reflected on this for a while. Yes, he decided, it would probably be wise to observe them. To know your enemy was half the battle after all.

As Fyrhaine entered the arena she could see that her opponent was allready there. Smiling to herself, she decided she would enjoy herself fighting the Wood Elf.

As soon as Imhoe'c saw the Dark Elf he knew that something wasn't right. She looked unnatural, it was almost as if the sun shined right through her. Deciding attack was the best defence, he turned his horse towards her and charged.

Fyrhaine stood motionless, she hadn't even drawn her sword yet. "FOOL": she shouted as Imhoec was about to reach her. Jumping into the air, two claws appeared from her wrists. Turning herself towards him, she saw the chance to stab her opponent in the arm, her blades easily passing through the armour.

Imhoec cursed: "By Orion, this one is fast." Turning his horse, he felt remarkably slow, but as the only way victory could be achieved was by killing her, he charged again. This time he was able to hit her though, his blade being guided by the hand of Isha. The blows passed right through her though. He shivered,: "I should've realised earlier that this was no normal Dark Elf." Backing away from the daemonette he said to her,: "So the Cult has arisen once more."

Fyrhaine grinned at the stupidity of the treehugger. "It never died.": She said softly. With the speed of a Leopard she sprang forward to finish the job. Allthough she hit the Asrai twice, one hit his horse and she could feel the other one being turned by an invisible field. "What the...". It was the last thing she said as the furious elf sprang towards her and only felt little resistance as his blade cut her in two.

Imhoe'c's turn

Horse hits but doesn't wound
Fyrhaine has 2 wounds left.

Fyrhaine's turn

1 Ward due to stone of Rebirth (you were lucky though as I rolled a 2)
Imhoe'c has 1 wound left

Imhoe'c's turn
3 hits
Reroll: 4 hits
2 wounds
No AS
2 Ward saves failed
Fyrhaine has no wounds left.

A couple of questions:
1) If you charge and another person strikes first, di you still get the charge bonusses?
2) Does the Stone of Rebirth work once in the entire batlle? Or only on one person, but for the rest of the battle if he has 1 wound remaining?

1) You still get the bonus.
2) It works once, i.e. you have one roll for one ward save. If you pass the roll, the item has expired.

Fyrhaine's turn
2 hits
2 wounds
No AS
1 Ward due to stone of Rebirth (you were lucky though as I rolled a 1)
Imhoe'c has 1 wound left

I dont quite understand this round - shouldnt the Stone have failed Imhoe'c on the roll of a 1? Or am I misunderstanding something...

Anyways, bad luck for Fyrhaine it seems.

I know the arena has already started but if it is possible, I would like to change my characters items before the arena starts. I would like to replace the Stone of Rebirth, the light armour and the Elven steed with the armour of the fey

New total would be: 253 pts
New armor save: 3+ in CC (shield, armour of the fey, helm)
New ward save: 4+ (against magical attacks only)

The reason I would like this change is that I just became aware that the stone of rebirth says "one use only" which I missed reading previously

If this is possible, that would be awesome, but I understand if it cant be changed

Cheers

@ Imp: I'm sorry, but you can't change the characters equipment anymore. It wouldn't be fair towards the others.

As Dihiran entered the arena she noticed she had to fight her kin. Although she did not like fighting against someone she had fought together with in may battles, she knew that it was best to get it over with. Approaching him with utmost care, she began to speak:"It is a grim fate that brings us in front of eachother my friend.".

"Yet, it is one that cannot be avoided.": he replied. The sweat dripping from his forehead.

"Strange", Dihiran thought, "We haven't fought yet and already he is sweating.". She backed away slowly when she saw why he was sweating. He was focussing all his energy on controlling the sword in his hand. Drawing her own sword she prepared for battle.

Suddenly Asorial's blade sprang forward, almost as if it had a life of it's own. As Dihiran tried to defend herself, she knew it was allready to late. The sword burst through her skull, sucking all life force from her.

"I am sorry my friend, the blade has a life of it's own. Your fate is grim indeed, but it is nothing compared to mine." Even as he left the arena his blade was still glowing from the life it had absorbed.

Short one
Asorial charges
3 hits
2 wounds
2 failed AS
No wards due to magic weapon.
2 Extra wounds due to the spirit sword.
Dihiran has 0 wounds left.

Asorial wins.

Imhoe'c was pleased. He cast his mind back to the moment when Fyrhaine's backbone crunched as his blade passed through her torso and grinned. Surely the death of a traitor would please Coeddil and Orion, and he looked forward to the many challenges ahead. Suddenly, he heard a voice. He swung around to see where it was coming from, but saw no one. It was almost imperceptible. "blood... i can t-ste the b--od of your kill... blood for the gr--test of the c---s gods..." It was very faint, yet it had an aura of authority and strength unlike anything Imhoe'c had ever heard before.

His mind snapped back to the presence as he saw the body of Fyrhaine suddenly come to life, gasping for air. Evidently the tournament master had some knowledge of rejuvenation, ensuring that the tournament could continue. Imhoe'c had the sudden urge to kill once more, although for what reason, he could not percieve, if was as if there was a new force driving him now, a force stronger than any other in the world...

In the meantime, Imhoe'c decided to do what he did best, and kill his next opponent with even more ferocity and violence, in the name of Coeddil, the greatest spirit of the woods.

Who can guess where this is going (rhetorical question)

Hal Qualleth was the first one to enter the arena. Ever confident, he smiled. "Looks like I have some time to choose which strategy I'm going to use against the daemon."

Deep in thoughts, he only heard the wings at the last moment. In a reflex he threw himself of his Cold One. The creature was split in 2 by a huge axe. The Dark Elf swung his sword wildly, hitting nothing.
He relaxed and breathed deeply. "Stay calm and try to hear where he's comming from", he muttered to himself.

As Khai'Zan swooped in for the second attack he thought he would finish the job. The Elf stood remarkably silent. As he was about to strike, he saw Hal Qualleth calmly raising his shield and sidestepping. The axe was blocked by the shield while the elf's sword lashed out with unimaginable speed, severely damaging his wing and effectively keeping him on the ground.

The fight was not over, realised Hal Qualleth. The loss of his wing is going to make the creature even more furious. By the time he had brought his shield down again, the daemon was already running towards him. For a time the contestants exchanged blows, neither one of them being able to get the upper hand in the fight. Untill one of Khai'Zan's blows hit a weak spot in the shield, severely damaging the druchii's arm and sending him sprawling across the floor.

Khai'Zan drew nearer to the exhausted Elf. Victory was his. Although Hal Qualleth tried to make a last stance, none of his blows, save one were strong enough to wound the daemon. The one that did get through his defence, got turned away from the daemon due to some evil magic. The Khorne daemon finished the job, focussing all his energy in one enormous blow. He uttered a final batlle-cry as his axe cleaved the Dark Elf's neck. "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Pretty boring battle really.

First part of round one is over. See first post for scores.

@ Imp: Who knows what this tournament might bring for the winner. ;) Not to mention for the losers.

Edit: I'm taking the opportunity to ask what you guys think of it at the moment and if there's something that might be improved.

Edit 2: You are permitted to walk around in the arena. What you see there is entirely up to you to decide. Be they daemons scuttling through the hallways, an assassin stalking one of the participants, a random encounter with another participant, ... Anything goes. Just remember one thing. NO FIGHTING IN THE HALLWAYS, I JUST CLEANED THE CARPETS, AND I DON'T WANT ANY BLOOD ON THEM. IT'S TO HARD TO GET IT OUT OF THE FABRIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its good, no improvements needed, wait, maybe some storyline, like an actual plot, rather than just a description of the battles. Other than that its good

A note to others: develop your characters! Describe events in between battles, the feelings of your entrant, and other facts

As Imhoe'c prepared for the next duel, he noticed a small bird fly by. Without thinking he threw his sword and skewered the bird in midair, which inexplicably fell and collapsed onto the only piece of carpet, blood leaking out, permanently distorting the beige colour of the carpet. Somehow Imhoe'c knew the Tournament master would be mad...

:D An evil spell was cast on Imhoe'c as the bird touched the floor. The cleaning lady, who was also a gifted sorceress, had cast a spell on him, immediately sending Imhoe'c, who had fallen prey to the Sheisserei, to the toilets. Unfortunately everyone witnessed the events, making Imhoe'c's embarassemnt even bigger.

This was not the right way. His very reason for leaving Athel Loren was being thrust back at him with ruthless cruelty. His unwilling hand had slaughtered one of his kin, again..

In the encampment around the arena he had seen daemons, several of them. Defeating the elf had brought him no joy, but had one of those abominations entered the arena he would gladly have let the sword loose upon it with its full fury. Ah yes he would´ve.. He thought to himself, an rare smile flashing itself momentarily on his lips. The words of his loyal spite echoing through his troubled mind, the spirit of a daemon was what he needed for his salvation. But Bhelliom´s words seemed distorted now, instead of telling him of salvation they now told him of revenge, revenge that had to be taken upon the daemons. They were the ones to blame for his condition, they were the ones who had cursed the sword in the first place. They must all die or.. "Gah!" he proclaimed into the thin air, abruptly cutting the mental sentence short. What thoughts where these? What was happening to him! This was not the doing of the sword, or was it.. He looked down upon the eagle-encrusted hilt, hatred burning in his eyes, stronger than ever.

He could never controll the sword entirely, but never before had the sword distorted and seemingly affected his thoughts as much as it obviusly had now. The bloodlust it usually awakened was nothing like this, this went deeper. Hatred for the very essence of life itself seemed to be bubbling just under the surface of his mental sanity. He shrugged his shoulders, shuddering heavily. He looked down on the corpse on the ground, the skull had closed and the chest heaved in a slow breathing. It struck him that this would be no ordinary tournament.

But that seemed to matter less now. He had better things to worry about, he solemnly strode off the arena, heading for the seclusion of his tent, leaving room for the next contestants...

Fyrhaine sighed - to equal parts due to frustration and to exaltation. The fight against the Asrai had started well and she had blessed him with delicate wounds but the retribution had been fierce - a lethal blow had pretty much ripped her apart sending her into an ecstatic shock. Pleasure from pain, the gift of her patron god. As the life had drained away from her after all not so martal hull she had been embraced by the Dark Prince and infused with life again. Her wounds had been sealed and healed in an instant and what was left was the loss.

In the end the insane Asrai had proven quite resilient to her both tempting and diverting defenses. But it mattered little - as a Slaaneshi she knew how to enjoy a good duel no matter who won. And there were more foes to fight, more pains to embrace and more blood to be spilled in the name of the Lord of Pleasure. The feeling of frustration dissolved at such thoughts and Fyrhaine left her room to take a walk around the Tournament Temple.

Khai'zan stalked out of the arena, nursing his unjured wing. Foolish elf, he thought, its demise was inevitable but it had managed to wound his pride aswell as his wing. However Khorne was pleased with a new addition to his skull collection. Very pleased. Khai'zan felt new power surging through him and meditated in the air, as the power of his God healed his wounds and blessed him with new strength. Khai'zan stood up and swaggered off to his quarters, taunting the weak Slaanesh daemon as he went past. Khai'zan entered his room and communed with his God.
