[WFRP] Need Contributors for Elf Project

Postby Herr Arnulfe » Mon Mar 07, 2011 1:00 am

The Liber Fanatica fanzine (www.liberfanatica.net) is developing a series of fan books for Elves in WFRP. Over the past month, Asrai.org has already served as a wonderful source of inspiration for the Athel Loren chapter, so I decided to de-lurk in the hope of recruiting some hardcore Wood Elf enthusiasts to join our team.

Writers who play WFRP (2nd edition) are welcome to join the ongoing rules design process. We're not especially concerned about game balance, so long as the rules model Wood Elf canon accurately in RPG terms.

Writers who don't play WFRP but know their stuff can contribute to background sections, and those with a flair for the dramatic may be asked to contribute short (~200 to 400 words) "fiction vignettes" to help illustrate certain concepts.

We could also use keen eyes (and brains) to proofread, comment and suggest improvements to article drafts.

Artists with proficiency in Elven/woodland subjects are also needed. Clipart won't cut it for Warhammer Elves, so we'll be using mostly original artwork for these books.

In addition to the Asrai book, we're also developing splatbooks for Asur and Druchii, plus a general guide to Elves in WFRP. Each book will include background, careers, equipment, spells, locations and bestiary additions. They will be hosted at Liber Fanatica as free pdfs of approximately 50 pages each.

If you're interested, just send me a PM or post here and I'll connect you with the project coordinator (Steven Lewis).

Regards,
Jude

Definitely sign me up for this! I think I'm proficient enough in all those areas; I know the WFRP rules well enough to play (although I rarely get the opportunity) and I've written/helped write rulesets before. I'm big on background and fluff (especially Elven material), and have been known to write on occasion. I've also proofread as a job in the past, so would be able to help there. I can do artwork as well, although I have no qualifications or background in art generally (except for fun, when I have time).

Anywho, I'd love to get involved and help out.

Very nice portfolio overtninja, PM sent. I suppose the new Wood Elf artwork tends to be more "grimdark", but personally I think a mixture of lighter and darker styles is best (for contrast). Your sylvan pieces have a vaguely anime-ish look, but I can tell that you're talented enough to produce a variety of styles.

A little google fu will reveal a pdf containing careers for wardancers in some early layouts for some re-written 1st ed. scenarios that were to be re-released for 2nd ed.

Personally I'm not that interested in the rpg aspects of wood elves (or other elves for that matter), I prefer my Warhammer campaigns set in the empire. The low-fantasy and resemblance to the real world is what appeals to me about Warhammer, and elves have a tendency to ruin that - apart from the occasional obnoxious NPC to spice things up a bit :p

.. could be fun to have a bunch of characters get ravaged by the Wild Hunt though :sexy:
– it is said that the apples of Athel Loren gain their deep red hue from the blood of its enemies soaking the ground.

Most of our material will be designed for playing Wood Elf (or High Elf) PCs in a normal WFRP party. Kinband traits, Elven magic and equipment - that sort of thing. We're also providing rules and guidelines for using WFB's forest critters in an RPG context (either as allies or enemies), so hopefully there will be more to do in Athel Loren than just fight Dryads.

The Asur/Druchii books will be geared more towards running all-Elf Ulthuan campaigns, playing Wood Elf or High Elf PCs who become corrupted, and creating Dark Elf NPCs. Many people assume Dark Elves are only in Naggaroth and Ulthuan.

I would be really interested to contribute towards the fiction of the background aspects. I'm kind of an aspiring writer (i.e I would love to do be an author yet im just getting into the hang of actually sitting down to write) and know quite a lot of the elven background, being an obsessive reader and playing warhammer for over 10 years. This will really give me motivation to write more, as I keep getting sidetracked. One of my stories, The way through the woods is posted here viewtopic.php?t=15949 if you want to have a look and I would really like to help out.

Thanks heabenlyjebus, I've sent you a PM. We probably won't have a clear idea of the fiction vignettes needed until rules drafts are a bit further along, but if you'd like to lend your background knowledge as a commenter/proofreader in the meantime, I'm sure it would be appreciated.

*BUMP*

We took a few months off from this project, but now we're ready for the final push. Still looking for writers and playtesters. Here's a recruitment notice posted by the Lead Developer, Steven, over at Strike-to-Stun:

********************
Writers Needed

We are hoping to enlist the help of some positive, energetic writers to collaborate with our existing team of 3 in the final stages of the development of Wood Elf rules and background for v2 in order to get a preview ready for Tim Con X and general release following. There are three writing assignments, the first requires a total of approximately 2000 written words and involves the adaptation of specific existing careers – skill, talent and trapping swaps may be necessary to give each career the required Wood Elf flavour as well the obvious descriptive text. The second assignment requires approximately 4,000-7,000 written words in total for the development of two new entries and expansion upon existing Bestiaries. The final assignment requires approximately 5,000-8,000 written words for the development of Wood Elf Mythology and Folklore. The allocated word count is to be divided between animal-based fables and allegories in the Fauna chapter, and co-writing narrative vignettes and quotes spread throughout every chapter. In addition to this, we’d like someone who’s also willing to help other writers integrate the mythology they are developing into exiting chapter drafts.

Although written primarily for v2, we would not have any issues with a writer making changes for use in v1 or v3 editions of the game upon completion and release.

Please PM for further information.

************************

Playtesters Needed

We are looking for v2 GMs that are willing to allow Wood Elf players to play-test our rules and background information in order to provide us with useful feedback. The rules written allow for Wood Elf characters within a mixed party or Wood Elf groups only, both within and outside of woodland realms.
