Bretonnian noble fluff / Athel Loren

Postby Herr Arnulfe » Fri Apr 29, 2011 5:36 pm

Does anybody know if the Baron Callard who's mentioned in WFB7e Daemons of Chaos (pg. 22 - The Sack of Braquiron) is supposed to be the same as the Carrard family featured in Guardians of the Forest, and noted on the WFB7e Loren map? Or are they just two noble families from Quenelles who happen to have similar names? For reference, Baron Callard in DoC7 defended his fief against Khornate Bloodthirsters 1,000 years ago and then disappeared leaving only his magical Sword Perilous behind.

Also, is Fulk de Berg from WFB 5e Wood Elves (pg. 14 - The Fate of the Baron) the same baron who built Castle Falk, which is listed on the GotF/WFB7e map?

This is for the WFRP elf project (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=20042). If you know of any other sources on Bretonnian noble connections to Athel Loren, all references and ideas are greatly appreciated.

No idea about the Carrards, sadly not read Guardians, but Castle Fulk was the name of the Baron's castle, and so I can only assume that the castle Fulk (not Falk, if you look closely, script's quite curly) on the map is indeed the remains of Baron Fulk's ill fated venture.
Er, not sure about other stuff, I assume you know that Gaston de Galliard was the envoy from Louis the Rash to Athel Loren (always felt a bit sorry for his being written out of the latest books.

Ah yes, now I can see that the forest texture appeared to close the top of the "u" in Fulk making it look like an "a".

Thanks for the reminder of Gaston de Galliard. I knew the Bretonnian/Wood Elf alliance had been formalized at some point but had forgotten the details. Of course, Louis the Rash ruled almost 1,500 years ago and there's no mention of the treaty being renewed since then (which allows for Bret vs. WE battles in WFB!).

There was also a Duke Melmon of Quenelles who disappeared into Loren. He emerged hundreds of years later as an old man, then crumbled to dust before he could finish telling his story.

I was hoping there might be some more recent fluff linkages between Bretonnia and Loren that could provide inspiration for a RPG scenario.

I've been looking for the same thing as justification for a Brett vs WE narrative campaign a friend and I want to play out (essentially, a mass Brett cavalry charge into Athel Loren spread over several games).

The only unresolved storyline I can find is the child of one of the noblemen of Quenelles disappearing when the wild hunt razed the city and wiped out her family in retaliation for something. Never seen again. It's in the timeline in the AB, which I don't have with me so can't quote.

I'm trying to work up something from that - be interested to hear if you come up with anything from elsewhere though.

Theres actually a book about the knights of brettonia more specificly a knight called Callard and it follows his progress from errant to grail knight. I had a quick flick through to spot any wood elves and near ther back of the book theres abit about Loren so I imagine the last story or so will involve wood elves quite abit. Waiting for him to read it so I can have a propper read myself but is taking an age!
