Well the article link in
this thread suggests that they have have gone north to find thier beloved wythel trees, but it's by no means definative.
They left because the wythel trees to which they had a particular attachment died out in Loren. They left looking for any forest anywhere that had the same species of trees. It's thought by some they left to the north but may have ended up in the far east.
Then there is something posted a while ago in

It seems the general conseus by empire scholars is that the lost kindred migrated to the Laurelorn forest. But then the general consesus amongst empire scholars is that orcs grow up to be trolls. Go figure.
