The Headless Horse....elf?

Postby BreasticleeS » Tue Jul 03, 2012 10:51 pm

So my WE army is a mid-autumn Halloween themed force, using vibrant colors like bright oranges and costumes and masks and such, and I had an interesting idea as I would like to add a Lord on a Great Stag to my army....make a Headless Horseman! Errrr...horseelf?....

The model looks as if it would work perfectly and all I would have to do is cut the head off, model the neck hole out of some green stuff, cut off the sword arm, bend it skyward and add a large flaming pumpkin on the end of it. My only worry is this may take it to far visually out of the realm of Wood Elves and into vampires or something, and if that's the case, I'd rather not spend the money on the models.

Thoughts?

I would go with it, but leave the head on the elf. Considering in the original story "legend of sleepy hollow" the headless horseman wasnt real, he was just some bully dressed up as the headless horseman to scare ichabod crane out of town, it should work very well. Hell the Asrai specialise in scaring people "out of town" or Athel Loren, its just this guy is a little crazy about it.

In my head I'm seeing an elf with a crazed smile on his face as he laughs maniacally as he rides around the borders of Athel Loren scaring away brettonian peasants for fun by throwing pumpkin heads at them. maybe after having a little too much wine during the Autumnal celebrations. Why not?

I like the idea of that but kind of feel like it will lose some of the tall tales element if I don't remove the head. I want it to be recognizable as that iconic figure, but i could maybe fashion him a dark hood out of green stuff to completely hide his face. What do you think?

I agree with both of you :/

One the one side keeping the head would lose the actual concept behind the model that was initially intended, however like already mentioned it kind of goes into the realm of undead
for him to be headless, rather than just mischievious halloween antics like i think the theme is

Very good show! I will leave the head on but shroud him in a very dark green cloak and hide his face with some green stuff!

Maybe keep the head but model something like this.

And just leave some hair sticking out to show that an elf is in there.

There have a been a couple Hallowe'en/ Headless Horseman themed WE armies over the years. I think both have been posted here and now in the depths of the Painting sub-forum.

I think I'll leave the head on but might change my decision after its painted. Right now I'm working on a treeman ancient carrying a trick or tree...t bag full of lopped off limbs. Wouldn't want him coming to my door.
